Meet Cat Wilkens
Cat Wilkens is a Johannesburg-based artist and designer whose multidisciplinary practice combines collage, painting, vintage ephemera and transformed ceramic objects.
Drawing on nearly three decades of experience as a design educator, she brings a strong understanding of composition, pattern, colour and visual storytelling to her work.
Her richly layered and often surreal pieces reimagine familiar animals, figures and found objects through an unmistakebly maximalist lens. Playful, theatrical and occasionally strange, Wilkens' work invites viewers into imaginative worlds where everyday imagery is transformed into something unexpected.
Her practice reflects a fascination with nostalgia, visual culture and the expressive possibilities of combining diverse materials and techniques.
